Curriculum

Learning through active exploration and experimentation.

The Creative Curriculum framework has been the hallmark of Learn and Smile Preschool, integrating the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards — Birth to Kindergarten.

Creative Curriculum

The framework behind the day

From infants to pre-kindergarten, children are provided key experiences across eight developmental domains. Our learning is achieved through a process of active exploration and experimentation that integrates critical thinking, concept development, communication, cooperation and creativity.

It is a bilingual program throughout. Hebrew is not a subject taught at a set hour — it is spoken in the room, in circle, at snack, and woven through the Jewish and Israeli calendar the year is built around.

The eight domains we plan around

Every activity on the schedule maps back to at least one of these. It is how we know play is doing its job.

Growing Up Here

What each stage is preparing your child for

Infants through pre-kindergarten

Key experiences across all eight domains, delivered through exploration rather than instruction. Children learn by handling, testing, repeating and talking about what they found — in English and in Hebrew.

By the end of pre-K a child leaves with the pre-literacy, pre-math and self-regulation skills kindergarten expects, and with the confidence to use them.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten begins with a set of standards that demonstrate, by example and application, how members of the Learn and Smile community conduct themselves and treat one another.

Our kindergarten program is a nurturing environment that builds the academic, social, emotional, physical, spiritual and creative foundations for confidence and success in elementary school and beyond. Each learning experience is purposed to prepare your child to enter first grade — and every grade that follows — equipped and motivated to thrive.

First grade

Our first grade curriculum builds on the early steps taken in kindergarten and cultivates in each child a growing ability and confidence to learn independently and contribute actively as a member of a learning group. An enriched and stimulating environment supports children’s emergent academic skills — as beginning readers, writers, mathematicians and speakers of Hebrew.

First grade is also the year in which many of the conventions of study are introduced, to help children internalize and take responsibility for their own academic skills: editing in writing, standard notation in math, following directions, and completing tasks independently and on time.

Aligned to Florida’s early learning standards

The Creative Curriculum framework integrates the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards — Birth to Kindergarten, so what happens in our rooms lines up with what the state expects a child to know and be able to do at each age.
